Skanda Vale is a multi-faith community or ashram, situated just north of Llanpumsaint,
which was founded in 1972 by Sri Lanka born Guru Sri Subramanium.
The 30 or so resident monks farm 114 acres as a non-profit making venture.
One of their main areas of work is the on-site hospice where they care for people with life-threatening
illnesses.
Their Buddhist inspired respect for life extends to all animals and they provide sanctuary for
a large number of creatures many of which have been rescued from neglect or slaughter. This includes cows, buffalo,
deer, goats, dogs, birds and rabbits as well as Valli, the temple elephant.
Over 100,000 pilgrims a year visit the temples.
